PS3 Vs. XBox 360. One Year Later.

Well after the launch of the Playstation 3 last Christmas, we have seen alot. We have seen the price drop (multiple times), ways to cut corners on the production (no backwards capability), and yet it prevails. As a personal owner of both a PS3and XBox360, i can say that i like them both pretty much equally. I love the games that are available for the 360, Halo 3, Beautiful Katamari, Forza, and even though its not an XBox exclusive, Call of Duty 4. The biggest thing about the games i love and the 360 is the way shooting games seem to melt in with the controller. All shooting games are much better played on the 360, simply because of the controller. (Xbox live doesn't hurt either).

However, with that being said, i couldn't imagine playing Madden 08 or NBA Live on anything but my PS3. Once again i feel that the controller layout is the deciding factor. I've been playing games on my PS and PS2 for years now, and if it aint broke, why fix it?

Another big selling point for the PS3 is the backwards compatablity (on some models). Even for those who never had a PS2, you can pick up great games for 19.99 that were made for the PS2, and play them on the PS3. Much better than 59.99. It is here that Xbox has fallen short; they have made some games compatible while others are left to be abandoned in the pit of old video games. (i know im not the only person who has one of those)

Also a very important feature is online updates. Sony is very good about releasing updates every month or so that enchance the Playstation system. As long as ive had my 360, ive had to download 2. Plus there are even rumors that come March 08, Sony will drop a DVR hardware upgrade for the PS3 which will allow you to record tv, and even better, stream them to your PSP from around the world.
If this goes through, Microsoft might as well drop the 360 all together.
As far as my verdict goes, if you can get them both, however if you can't, it depends on how you play. Shooting games your forte ? that grab a 360 and never look back. But if your looking for a well rounded gaming system that is sure to get better everyday, PS3 is the way to go.

Good post, however I completely disagree with you about the shooting games. Until now, if you absolutely must play shooting games on console not pc Dreamcast was the way to go, but now with the ps3 supporting any cheapy usb keyboard and mouse (unlike the xbox with its battery munching "controller"), I cant find any reason even to use a pc instead!
